Millions of thermionic valves were made and used long before the pheonomen of the "Cat's Whisker" gave rise to the transistor and integrated industry that followed on.

Most of the process is very traditional, although the use of some modern technology is also evident. This is a most delightful "silent" French film with absorbing background music.
The glassblowing tradition was what brought the Dutch company Philips to electronics.
